afaplan coordinates rail rehabilitation on the Douro Line

afaplan is the company responsible for the Management, Supervision and Coordination of Safety and Health for the rehabilitation of the track superstructure between kilometers 127,059 to 139,500, on the Pinhão - Tua section of the Douro Line.
The work, carried out by Infraestruturas de Portugal and covers a section of about 12.5 km, with a global investment of around 5,8 million euros. The intervention includes the complete replacement of wooden sleepers by bi-block concrete sleepers, the replacement of rail, transformation of short bar into long welded bar, replacement of ballast in specific areas and improvement of the drainage system.
The main objectives of the works are to increase the levels of safety, quality and reliability of the infrastructure, to improve passenger comfort and convenience levels and to reduce maintenance costs.
