afaplan coordinates the construction of the Mondego Mobility System

afaplan will be the company responsible for providing Construction Management and Safety Coordination services for the contract for the adaptation of the infrastructure of the suburban section of the Mondego Mobility System, between Alto de São João and Serpins.
The Mondego Mobility System consists of the implementation of a Metrobus with electric traction with batteries on the old railway branch of Lousã and in the urban area of Coimbra, connecting Serpins, Lousã and Miranda do Corvo to Coimbra.
The contract will be consigned for 23,7 million euros and will take place on the section between Alto de São João and Serpins, with an extension of 30 km, including the following interventions:
- Reprofiling of the platform and paving;
- Slope clearing and consolidation;
- Improvement of the transversal and longitudinal drainage system;
- 17 double lane stops for crossing vehicles and passenger platforms;
- 4 specific vehicle crossing areas;
- 5 U-turn roundabouts near the terminus stations;
- 8 emergency Accesses to the Canal for rescue operations;
- 13 bridges and pontoons with widening of the transversal profile;
- 7 tunnels with paving, lighting and accessory systems;
- 24 road and Pedestrian Level Intersections to be automated and signaled;
- 6 uneven intersections: five already existing and one to be built (unevenness of EN342).
