The beginning of a new year is usually also a period of reflection on the present and setting goals for the cycle that is beginning. Taking advantage of the double of the calendar, ECO invited 13 leaders of Portuguese small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to express their "wishes" for the country and the national economy in 2022, aligned or not with the business goals and the specificities of the sector in which they operate.
Gonçalo Sousa Soares, reinforcing the idea that afaplan has to manage large contracts for Buildings, Railways, Renewable Energies and Hydraulics, points out, as a "major wish", the restructuring of the construction industry in Portugal so that it becomes a strategic sector again, calculating that it has lost 45% of its workforce since 2008, or 240 thousand people, and that it continues to let many qualified staff flee abroad.
"I very much want a national plan to be created in 2022 - with a multi-party agreement that guarantees stability, even in the event of political changes. The State must standardize RRP investments over time and create conditions so that private individuals have an interest in investing, Universities are closer to companies, listening to them and adapting according to market expectations, and companies are structured and prepared for the educational and digital requirements that will train them for the future of industry," he detailed.
